Sometimes an artist needs a bit of self-reflection and testing time to work with new brushes, new sources of the creative mind, lighting effects, and other things that need to be practiced to be mastered. Believe it or not, most commissions do not allow for personal growth! That is where you might step in as a customer if you're feeling generous and adventurous to try out an experimental commission.
Experimental commissions are totally and completely free reign of the artist, aside from working with your own chosen character and his or her reference. The artist will choose a method, mood, brush style, etc based upon your desired payment amount. What you will receive is something that will be mostly the artist testing a new concept, style, brush stroke, color theory, and many other possible combinations of things. The artist will ensure that the time spent on the art reflects your payment, but be wary, there are no refunds available for this commission type if you are unhappy with the result, and there are no works in progress sketches for approval. This is a totally straight shot commission.
